Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11553 is enacted to read:

§11553.__Moose management within high-accident areas

Notwithstanding section 11552, the commissioner may suspend the rule-making procedure to respond to the need to increase the number of moose permits within an area that is experiencing a significant increase in the number of accidents involving a vehicle colliding with a moose.

SUMMARY

This bill gives the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife the authority to forgo the rule-making procedure when responding to the need to increase the moose harvest due to an increase in moose-related vehicle accidents.
