| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4801, sub-§4 is enacted to read: |

| | | 4.__Start of school year.__A school administrative unit may | | not commence classes earlier than Labor Day.__This subsection | | does not prohibit a school administrative unit from: |

| | | A.__Holding athletic contests or practices prior to Labor | | Day; |
|
| | | B.__Scheduling in-service days or work days prior to Labor | | Day; |
|
| | | C.__Holding school year-round; or |
|
| | | D.__Holding summer school. |
|
| | | This bill prohibits school administrative units from | | commencing classes prior to Labor Day. |
