16. Responding state. "Responding state" means a state to in
which a proceeding is filed or to which a proceeding is forwarded
for filing from an initiating state under this chapter or a law
or procedure substantially similar to this chapter, the Uniform
Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act or the Revised Uniform
Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act.

 
Sec. 4. 19-A MRSA §2802, sub-§19, as amended by PL 1997, c. 669, §13,
is further amended to read:

 
19. State. "State" means a state of the United States, the
District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United
States Virgin Islands or any territory or insular possession
subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. The term
"state" includes an Indian tribe and includes a foreign
jurisdiction that has established procedures for issuance and
enforcement of support orders that are substantially similar to
the procedures under this chapter, the Uniform Reciprocal
Enforcement of Support Act, or the Revised Uniform Reciprocal
Enforcement of Support Act.:

 
A.__An Indian tribe; and

 
B.__A foreign country or political subdivision that:

 
(1)__Has been declared to be a foreign reciprocating
country or political subdivision under federal law;

 
(2)__Has established a reciprocal arrangement for child
support with this State as provided in section 3008-A;
or

 
(3)__Has enacted a law or established procedures for
issuance and enforcement of support orders that are
substantially similar to the procedures under this
chapter.

 
Sec. 5. 19-A MRSA §2802, sub-§21, ¶¶C and D, as enacted by PL 1995, c.
694, Pt. B, §2 and affected by Pt. E, §2, are amended to read:

 
C. Determination of parentage; or

 
D. The location of obligors or their assets.; or

 
Sec. 6. 19-A MRSA §2802, sub-§21, ¶E is enacted to read:

 
E.__Determination of the controlling child support order.
