An Act to Rename the Town of Westport

 
Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become
effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as
emergencies; and

 
Whereas, the Town of Westport requires approval from the
Legislature in order to hold an election on March 29, 2003 to
change the name of the town to "Town of Westport Island"; and

 
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create
an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and
require the following legislation as immediately necessary for
the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now,
therefore,

 
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §1203, sub-§16, ¶B, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 628,
§2, is amended to read:

 
B. In Lincoln County, the municipalities and unorganized
territories of Alna, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Bremen,
Bristol, Damariscotta, Dresden, Edgecomb, Hibberts Gore
unorganized territory, Jefferson, Monhegan Plantation,
Newcastle, Nobleboro, Somerville, South Bristol, Southport,
Waldoboro, Westport Island, Whitefield and Wiscasset.
