Fiscal Detail and Notes
The projected annual costs to the General Fund to reimburse counties for inmate medical services are identified above.  These estimates are based on an average cost of $10.50 a day for medical services for an inmate in the county jail system.  These amounts do not include other extraordinary medical costs resulting from the hospitalization and care of inmates for life threatening illness.  Although there is an avenue for counties to pursue recovering medical costs from inmates, the actual cost recovered is insignificant and would have a minor impact on the projected reimbursement for medical services by the state to counties.
