This
bill increases the number of times a juvenile will be bound-over to Superior
Court. This holding period can be up
to a year, resulting in additional costs to county jails and state juvenile
detention facilities. In 2001 there
were 173 potential cases that would have been eligible to be bound-over under
the reduced criteria. The average
daily cost for the county jail to hold a person is $88.18 and the average
cost for a state correctional faciltiy to detain a juvenile is $222.73. The actual costs will depend on how many
cases prosecutors will attempt to get bound-over in a given year. |
