The
cost to the Legislature of paying the $100/day special session pay through
April 16, 2004, assuming an adjournment date of April 16, is estimated to be
approximately $770,000. In addition,
legislators will be entitled to the $55 per diem for attendance at committee
meetings on days the Legislature was not in session. The total cost can not be determined at
this time, but would be transferred into the Maine Budget Stabilization
Fund. If the 2nd Special Session
continues beyond the April 21 statutory adjournment date of the 2nd Regular
Session, the estimated cost will be approximately $20,250 per day after that
