§15690. Local appropriations

 
Beginning with the budget for the 2005-2006 school year, the
following provisions apply to local appropriations for school
purposes.

 
1.__School administrative unit contribution to total cost of
funding public education from kindergarten to grade 12. The
legislative body of each school administrative unit may vote to
raise and appropriate an amount up to its required contribution
to the total cost of education as described in section 15688.

 
A.__For a municipal school unit, an article in substantially
the following form must be used when a single municipal
school administrative unit is considering the appropriation
of an amount up to its required contribution to the total
cost of education as described in section 15688.

 
(1)__"Article.....: To see what sum the municipality
will appropriate for the school administrative unit's
contribution to the total cost of funding public
education from kindergarten to grade 12 as described in
the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act
(Recommend $......) and to see what sum the
municipality will raise as the municipality's
contribution to the total cost of funding public
education from kindergarten to grade 12 as described in
the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act in
accordance with the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A,
section 15688. (Recommend $......)"

 
(2)__The following statement must accompany the article
in subparagraph (1).__"Explanation: The school
administrative unit's contribution to the total cost of
funding public education from kindergarten to grade 12
as described in the Essential Programs and Services
Funding Act is the amount of money determined by state
law to be the minimum amount that a municipality must
raise in order to receive the full amount of state
dollars."

 
B.__For a school administrative district or a community
school district, an article in substantially the following
form must be used when the school administrative district or
community school district is considering the appropriation
of an amount up to its required contribution to the total
cost of education as described in section 15688.
