| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §683 is enacted to read: |
|
| | A person may not display any campaign signs, posters or | stickers containing a candidate's name or otherwise intending to | influence the opinion of any voter on an issue in any local or | state election more than 30 days prior to the election. |
|
| | Sec. 2. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶H, as amended by PL 1999, c. 152, Pt. | G, §2, is further amended to read: |
|
| H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an | election, primary or referendum, provided except that these | signs may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6 | weeks 30 days before the election, primary or referendum to | which they relate and must be removed by the candidate or | political committee not later than one week thereafter; and |
|
| | This bill prohibits the display of campaign signs, posters or | stickers more than 30 days prior to an election. |
