Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §4305, sub-§3-C is enacted to read:

3-C.__Health plan coverage; application.__Notwithstanding the definition of "basic necessities" in section 4301, each municipality shall ensure that applicants that are receiving Medicare, MaineCare or Dirigo Health benefits do not receive general assistance to purchase prescriptions that are denied by Medicare, MaineCare, Dirigo Health or other prescription coverage plans.

SUMMARY

In anticipation of federal changes in prescription drug card benefits, this bill changes the law concerning the general assistance program for municipalities to specify that general assistance may not be given for applicants receiving Medicare, MaineCare or Dirigo Health, or other prescription coverage, for coverage denied by those programs.
