| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4722, sub-§2, ¶¶D and E, as enacted by PL 1983, c. | | 859, Pt. C, §§5 and7, are amended to read: |

| | | D. Science, including at least one year of laboratory | study--2 years; and |
|
| | | E. Fine arts, which may include art, music, forensics or | drama--one year.; and |
|
| | | Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §4722, sub-§2, ¶F is enacted to read: |

| | | F.__Instruction in the legislative process. |

| | | Sec. 3. 20-A MRSA §4730 is enacted to read: |

| | | §4730. Instruction in legislative process |
|
| | | The secondary school course of study must include instruction | | in the legislative process, which a student must complete | | satisfactorily in order to graduate from a secondary school.__The | | instruction must provide the student with an understanding of the | | legislative process and include a requirement that the student | | follow through the legislative process a piece of legislation | | sponsored by a local Legislator.__The student must give an oral, | | written or electronic presentation on the legislative process and | | the final disposition of the piece of legislation. |

| | | This bill requires every high school student to receive | | instruction in the legislative process in order to graduate.
