Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1927 is enacted to read:

§1927.__Optional accent lighting

All lamps intended to replace required lamps on the exterior of a motor vehicle must conform with and be installed as required by federal motor vehicle safety standards set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 571, Section 108.__Nothing in this section may be interpreted to prohibit the sale, installation and use of aftermarket replacement lighting equipment that meets the standards provided for in federal regulations or of lighting equipment that is not prohibited by federal regulations and has not proven to be a safety hazard.

SUMMARY

This bill allows optional accent lighting on motor vehicles that conforms with federal regulations and does not create a safety hazard.
