Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §682, sub-§4-A is enacted to read:

4-A.__Opponents of signature collection prohibited.__Within 250 feet of the entrance to the voting place, as well as in the voting place itself, a person who opposes collection of signatures on a petition to place a direct initiative of legislation or referendum on the ballot at a future election may not influence or attempt to influence another person's decision to sign such a petition.

SUMMARY

This bill prohibits opponents of a citizen initiative signature collection drive from influencing or attempting to influence another person's decision to sign such a petition.
