Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2488 is enacted to read:

 
§2488.__Administrative review

 
Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, a person
who receives a license suspension of more than 18 months may,
after 18 months, petition the Secretary of State to review the
terms of the suspension.__The Secretary of State may reinstate
the license of a petitioner under this section if the Secretary
of State finds extraordinary circumstances justifying the
reinstatement.__This section does not apply to suspensions
directly ordered by the Secretary of State.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill allows a person who received a driver's license
suspension of more than 18 months to petition the Secretary of
State for reinstatement after 18 months of the suspension. The
Secretary of State may reinstate the license of the petitioner if
the Secretary of State finds extraordinary circumstances
justifying the reinstatement. This bill does not apply to
suspensions directly ordered by the Secretary of State.
