4.__ Renewal fee.__In addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee prescribed by law, the annual renewal contribution of a past or present member of the Maine National Guard for National Guard registration plates is $15, which must be deposited with the Treasurer of State and credited as follows:

A.__Ten dollars to the Maine Military Family Relief Fund under this section; and

B.__Five dollars to the Specialty License Plate Fund established in section 469__for administrative and production costs.

5.__Duplicate plates.__The Secretary of State shall issue a Maine National Guard plate in a 3-number and 3-letter combination sequence.__Vanity plates may not duplicate vanity plates issued in another class of plate.

6.__Weight limit.__A Maine National Guard plate may be issued for a motor vehicle that does not exceed 9,000 pounds.__A motor vehicle that exceeds 6,000 pounds is subject to the fees in section 504.

SUMMARY

This bill authorizes the issuance of a special registration plate for members of the Maine National Guard that will help fund the Maine Military Family Relief Fund. The license plates issued are for past and present members of Maine National Guard only.
