Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §1912 is enacted to read:

§1912.__Alternative or additional education program

The governing body of a school administrative unit as defined in Title 20-A, section 1, subsection 26 may choose to offer abstinence education for grades 7 to 12 in place of or in addition to any comprehensive family life education that takes place in a school pursuant to this chapter.__For purposes of this section, "abstinence education" has the same meaning as in 42 United States Code, Section 710(b)(2) (2005).

SUMMARY

This bill allows the governing body of a school administrative unit to choose to offer abstinence education for grades 7 to 12 in place of or in addition to any comprehensive family life education that takes place in a school.
