| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §13074 is enacted to read: |

| | | §13074.__Watercraft towing skier |
|
| | | A watercraft towing a person on water skis, a surfboard or | | other similar device must have: |
|
| | | 1.__Observer.__A person in the watercraft who is at least 12 | | years of age, in addition to the operator, who is in a position | | to continually observe the person being towed; or |
|
| | | 2.__Mirror.__An approved wide-angle ski mirror mounted with a | | viewing surface of at least 70 square inches and that is at least | | 4 inches in height and 8 inches in length, gives 180 degrees of | | vision behind the operator and is designed as a ski mirror. |
|
| | | This subsection does not apply to a watercraft towing a person on | | a tube or to a personal watercraft towing a person. |
|
| | | This bill allows the use of a rear-view wide-angle mirror in | | lieu of an observer on a boat that is towing a person on water | | skis. |
