Sec. 1. 2 MRSA §1, 3rd ¶, as enacted by PL 1985, c. 693, §1, is amended to read:

Until the first Wednesday of January 1987, the Governor shall receive an annual salary of $35,000. Beginning Until the first Wednesday of January 1987 2007, the Governor shall must receive an annual salary of $70,000. Beginning the first Wednesday of January 2007, the Governor must receive an annual salary that is 10% greater than the annual salary of any other official of State Government.__For purposes of this section, "official of State Government" means an employee of the executive branch, legislative branch, judicial branch, Department of the Attorney General, Department of the Secretary of State, Department of the Treasurer, Department of Audit, University of Maine System, Maine Community College System or Maine Maritime Academy or of any other state agency or independent agency.

Sec. 2. Application. This Act does not apply to the Governor who is serving on the effective date of this Act during that Governor's continuance in office.

SUMMARY

This bill provides the Governor an annual salary that is 10% greater than the annual salary of any other official of State Government. In accordance with the Constitution of Maine, Article V, Part First, Section 6, the bill provides that it does not apply to the Governor who is serving on the effective date of the legislation during that Governor's continuance in office.
