This
legislation will require General Fund appropriations to the Department of
Corrections in the amounts of $37,973,750 in fiscal year 2005-06 and
$17,565,000 in fiscal year 2006-07 for paying the increased operational costs
of shifting 143 prsioners to the state from county jails, for requiring
increased reimbursments to counties and for the design and construction of a
medium/minimum security correctonal facility at an estimated cost of
$24,800,000 to handle the increased inmates.
The county savings will be $4,587,000 annually from the shift of 143
prisoners and $12,800,000 annually from increased reimbursements from the
County Jail Prisoner Support and Community Corrections Fund administered by
the Department of Corrections. |
