The
minimum wage increases in October of 2006 and October of 2007 would have no
impact on State employees. However,
requiring that the minimum hourly wage be adjusted on October 1, 2008 and
every October 1 thereafter by any positive percent change in the Consumer
Price Index will result in a future cost to the State as an employer. The amount and timing of the impact can not
be determined and will depend on when the increase in the minimum wage
results in it surpassing the lowest hourly wage rate paid to state
employees. |

Additional
costs to the Department of Labor associated with adjusting the minimum hourly
wage can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
