The Secretary of State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average length for the general election in November. If the number or size of the referendum questions increases the ballot length, an additional appropriation of $8,000 or more may be required.

Fiscal Detail and Notes
If the referendum question is approved by the voters, the additional cost to the Legislature will begin for the 1st Regular Session of the 124th Legislature.  Setting the base legislative salary at $15,000 per year starting in December of 2008 will result in additional future General Fund appropriations to the Legislature of $428,862 in fiscal year 2008-09 and $1,278,074 in fiscal year 2009-10 for salary and benefits including retirement costs.
