Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §501, sub-§7, ¶A,  as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

A. A temporary registration permit is for one trip only, between the points of origin and destination and intermediate points from the point of origin to the destination and back to the point of origin, including any intermediate points, as set forth in the permit.

Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §501, sub-§7, ¶C,  as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

C. The Secretary of State may not issue a temporary registration permit that is valid for longer than 15 10 days from the effective date of the registration.

Sec. 3. 29-A MRSA §501, sub-§7, ¶D,  as amended by PL 1999, c. 790, Pt. C, §5 and affected by §19, is further amended to read:

D.  The fee for the temporary registration permit is $12 $15.’

This amendment, which is the minority report of the committee, replaces the bill. This amendment modifies the temporary registration permit law:

1. To allow a permit holder to make a round trip under the permit;

2. To decrease the period of validity of a permit from 15 days to 10 days; and

3. To increase the fee for the permit from $12 to $15.
