Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §1055, sub-§10,  as amended by PL 2001, c. 588, §17, is further amended to read:

10. Supervise school employees.   The superintendent is responsible for the evaluation of all teachers and other employees of the school administrative unit. Each teacher who is subject to a 2-year probationary period pursuant to section 13201 and each school employee who is a professional employee whose employment is subject to a 2-year probationary period must receive a written evaluation of their job performance prior to each April 1st within the 2-year probationary period.

This amendment is the majority report of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs, and it replaces the bill. The amendment provides that the superintendent is responsible for providing a written evaluation for each teacher who is subject to a 2-year probationary period and each school employee who is a professional employee whose employment is subject to a 2-year probationary period. Each of these school employees must receive a written evaluation of their job performance prior to each April 1st within the 2-year probationary period.
