Resolve, Regarding the Privacy of Social Security Numbers

Sec. 1. Department of Administrative and Financial Services to develop plan to eliminate requirement for private social security numbers. Resolved: That the Department of Administrative and Financial Services shall develop a plan to eliminate the requirement by the State, a political subdivision, a private business or other person to provide a private social security number issued by the United States Social Security Administration. The plan must include a provision that a social security number may be requested but not required by the State, a political subdivision, a private business or other person, and a person may not be penalized for refusing to give the person’s private social security number. The plan may exempt a necessary use of a social security number, such as for a tax, paternity, child support enforcement or credit reporting matter; and be it further

Sec. 2. Legislation. Resolved: That no later than December 5, 2007, the Department of Administrative and Financial Services shall submit legislation implementing the plan developed in section 1 to the Second Regular Session of the 123rd Legislature.
