An Act To Encourage Community-oriented Campaigns for Appropriate Sign Laws

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1922,  as repealed and replaced by PL 1981, c. 318, §4, is amended to read:

§ 1922. Local ordinance

This chapter shall does not supersede the provisions of any other statute, regulation, ordinance or resolution , the that contains requirements of which are more strict than those of and not inconsistent with this chapter and not inconsistent therewith, including prohibiting an official business directional sign, whether such the ordinance, bylaw, regulation, resolution or statute was enacted before or after the effective date of this chapter. It shall not be inconsistent with this chapter if such statute, regulation, ordinance or resolution prohibits official business directional signs. A political sign may not be placed on a public way within a municipality unless the municipality enacts an ordinance allowing a political sign on a public way.
