An Act Regarding the Maine Regulatory Fairness Board

Emergency preamble. Whereas,  acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and

Whereas,  members of the Maine Regulatory Fairness Board do not receive any compensation for their service on the board; and

Whereas,  current law does not provide for members of that board to receive reimbursement for their actual expenses incurred in connection with their service on the board; and

Whereas,  the inability to receive such reimbursement may adversely affect the ability of some board members to continue to serve; and

Whereas,  in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §57, sub-§7  is enacted to read:

7 Compensation.   Board members are entitled to compensation for expenses only pursuant to section 12004-I, subsection 2-G.

Sec. 2. 5 MRSA §12004-I, sub-§2-G  is enacted to read:

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.

This bill allows the members of the Maine Regulatory Fairness Board to be reimbursed for their expenses.
