Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Department of Corrections will incur additional costs in the event a conviction occurs.  The total estimated cost for each conviction based on the average cost to the state for a Class C crime would be $70,173 with an average length of stay of 1 year and 10 months or 675 days.
Any additional indigent defense costs associated with the infrequent number of convictions can be absorbed within the Judicial Department's existing budgeted resources.
