Fiscal Detail and Notes
Raising the limitation on damages under the Maine Tort Claims Act from $400,000 to $1,000,000 will allow higher damage awards in the future against governmental entities and their employees.  The amount of any future damage awards against the state or municipalities cannot be determined at this time and will depend on the individual cases presented to, and adjudicated by, the courts.
