| Requires school administrative units to implement dating violence policies, publish the dating violence policy, provide dating violence training and a copy of the policy to school personnel, provide dating violence education and a copy of the policy to students in grades 7 through 12, inform each parent and legal guardian of a 7th to 12th grade student of the school's dating violence policy and provide a copy of the policy to parents and legal guardians upon request. | School | Significant statewide | ||||
| The required local activities in this bill may represent a State mandate pursuant to the Constitution of Maine. Unless General Fund appropriations are provided to fund at least 90% of the additional costs or a Mandate Preamble is amended to the bill and two-thirds of the members of each House vote to exempt this mandate from the funding requirement, municipalities may not be required to implement these changes. | ||||||

| The Department of Education has indicated that it will require ongoing General Fund appropriations of $30,000 in fiscal year 2009-10 and $50,000 per year beginning in fiscal year 2010-11 for the costs associated with including dating violence education in the Maine Learning Results. The fiscal year 2009-10 cost includes curriculum alignment and development of model dating violence policy standards. The ongoing costs beginning in fiscal year 2010-11 include curriculum development, professional development and distribution of curriculum materials | ||||||
