An Act To Allow Marriage and Family Therapists To Serve as Mental Health Professionals in Public Schools
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §254, sub-§13 is enacted to read:
13. Marriage and family therapists. The commissioner shall adopt rules providing that a person licensed as a marriage and family therapist under Title 32, chapter 119 is qualified to hold the position of school counselor or school social worker or other mental health professional in a school setting. Rules adopted under this subsection are routine technical rules under Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
SUMMARY
This bill requires the Commissioner of Education to adopt rules providing that a licensed marriage and family therapist is qualified for the position of school counselor, school social worker or other mental health professional in a school setting.
