‘Resolve, To Create a Working Group To Identify Methods To Ensure Voter Integrity’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. Working group to identify methods to ensure voter integrity. Resolved: That the Department of the Secretary of State, referred to in this resolve as "the department," shall convene a working group to identify methods to ensure voter integrity; and be it further

Sec. 2. Participants. Resolved: That, notwithstanding Joint Rule 353, the department shall invite the following persons to participate in the working group under section 1:

1. One member of the Senate selected by the President of the Senate;

2. One member of the House of Representatives selected by the Speaker of the House;

3. One person from the Governor's office selected by the Governor;

4. One person from the Attorney General's office selected by the Attorney General;

5. One person from the Maine Town and City Clerks' Association selected by the association; and

6. One person from the Maine Civil Liberties Union selected by the organization; and be it further

Sec. 3. Report. Resolved: That, by January 30, 2012, the department shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs with its recommendations for methods to ensure voter integrity.

This amendment strikes Committee Amendment "A" and replaces the bill with a resolve that requires the Department of the Secretary of State to convene a working group to identify methods to ensure voter integrity. The department shall report its recommendations for methods to ensure voter integrity to the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs by January 30, 2012.
