An Act To Require That the Secretary of State Certify the Qualifications of Candidates for Legislative Office
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §335, sub-§10 is enacted to read:
10. Secretary of State certification. The Secretary of State shall certify that a candidate for State Senate or State House of Representatives meets the age and residency requirements pursuant to the Constitution of Maine, Article IV, Part First and Part Second in order for the petition to be valid.
Sec. 2. 21-A MRSA §354, sub-§10 is enacted to read:
10. Secretary of State certification. The Secretary of State shall certify that a candidate for State Senate or State House of Representatives meets the age and residency requirements pursuant to the Constitution of Maine, Article IV, Part First and Part Second in order for the petition to be valid.
