An Act To Limit Taxes on Hospitals
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 36 MRSA §2892, as amended by PL 2009, c. 571, Pt. AAA, §1, is further amended by inserting at the end a new paragraph to read:
For hospital taxable years beginning on or after July 1, 2012, the total revenue collected under this section may not exceed $81,386,215. If revenue calculated at the rates provided in this section is projected to exceed this limit, the assessor in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services shall calculate a reduced rate of tax that will not result in revenue in excess of $81,386,215.
SUMMARY
This bill limits the tax on hospitals to $81,386,215 annually beginning in 2012.
