An Act To Require Voter Validation for a School Administrative Unit To Retain Ownership of a School No Longer Used Primarily for Classroom Education
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4105 is enacted to read:
§ 4105. School buildings used for purposes other than instruction
If a school administrative unit intends to retain a school building that is no longer being used for the instruction of students, the school administrative unit shall obtain prior voter approval pursuant to the provisions of section 4102, subsection 4, paragraphs A and B. The article to be voted on must be substantially in the following form:
"Article: Do you favor authorizing the school committee of ........................................................ (name of town) (the board of directors of School Administrative Unit No. .......) to use .................................................................................... (name of school building) for ............................................................. (specific purpose) rather than the instruction of students?
