The Secretary of
State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average
length for the general election in November.
If the number or size of the referendum questions requires production
and delivery of a second ballot, an additional appropriation of $107,250 may
be required. |

Any impact from
this bill is contingent on approval by the voters at referendum. This legislation requires the office of the
Governor to be elected using the ranked-choice method. In addition to the cost of the initial
authorizing referendum mentioned above, if approved the Department of
Secretary of State will incur General Fund expenditures in fiscal year
2014-15 for conducting the second and subsequent rounds of counting the
ballots, producing a separate ballot for the office of the Governor and
retrieving the tamper-proof containers of ballots. The department estimates it would need to
hire 15 temporary workers to conduct the count. |
