An Act To Allow a Junior Hunter To Shoot Any Deer on Opening Day of Hunting Season

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11401-A  is enacted to read:

§ 11401-A Junior hunter on opening day

A person who possesses a junior hunting license may take a deer of either sex with a firearm under supervision as required by section 11108-A or bow and arrow, if that person is licensed under section 11403, subsection 1, on the first day of the regular deer hunting season. The holder of the junior hunting license may not hunt deer after that person has killed or registered one deer during the open season of that calendar year, unless otherwise provided in law or rule, except that a junior hunter who possesses an expanded archery permit as established by the department by rule or an archery hunting license may take additional deer during the open archery season on deer pursuant to section 11403, subsection 2 as authorized by the permit or license.

This bill allows a person who holds a junior hunting license to hunt a deer of any sex with a firearm or bow and arrow on the first day of the regular deer hunting season, in accordance with supervision guidelines and bag limit guidelines.
