An Act To Join in a Prohibition on Motor Fuel Containing Corn-based Ethanol
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 10 MRSA §1457-B is enacted to read:
§ 1457-B. Prohibition on sale, consignment or distribution of motor fuel containing corn-based ethanol; contingent effective date
1. Prohibition on sale of motor fuel containing corn-based ethanol. A distributor, blender or retail dealer may not sell, consign or distribute motor fuel containing corn-based ethanol.
2. Contingent effective date. This section does not take effect until at least 2 of the other New England states, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, have enacted laws that prohibit the sale of motor fuel containing corn-based ethanol. The Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry shall notify the Revisor of Statutes when 2 other New England states have adopted laws that prohibit the sale of motor fuel containing corn-based ethanol.
