Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:
‘An Act To Increase the Age Requirement To Obtain a Concealed Handgun Permit’
Amend the bill by striking out all of section 1 and inserting the following:
‘Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §2003, sub-§1, ¶A, as enacted by PL 1985, c. 478, §2, is amended to read:
Amend the bill in section 2 in paragraph D in subparagraph (5) by inserting after division (a) the following:
(a-1) If your answer to the question in division (a) is "yes," are you a member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces and at least 18 years of age?
SUMMARY
This amendment is the majority report and provides that a member of the United States Armed Forces who is at least 18 years of age is eligible to apply for a concealed handgun permit. This is an exception to the proposal in the bill that requires a person to be at least 21 years of age to be eligible to apply for a concealed handgun permit.
