Amend the bill by inserting after the enacting clause the following:

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §2401, sub-§5,  as enacted by PL 2011, c. 414, §5, is amended to read:

5. Education service provider.   "Education service provider" means an education management organization, charter management organization, school design provider or any other partner entity with whom a public charter school intends to contract for a limited scope of education services and resources, including education design, implementation or management. An education service provider must be a nonprofit, nonreligious organization.

Amend the bill by relettering or renumbering any nonconsecutive Part letter or section number to read consecutively.

This amendment is the majority report of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. The bill requires that public charter schools and virtual public charter schools established in this State be operated as nonprofit organizations. The amendment retains these provisions and revises the definition of "education service provider" to provide that an education service provider must be a nonprofit, nonreligious organization.
