Amend the bill in section 1 in §6355 by striking out all of the last indented paragraph (page 1, lines 18 to 23 in L.D.) and inserting the following:
‘ For a child excepted under subsection 1, 2 or 3, a school health advisor as described in section 6402-A or the designee of a school health advisor shall provide to a parent of the child information about the benefits and risks of immunization consisting of vaccine information statements prepared by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and sign a statement that the immunization information was provided to the parent. The signed statement must be included in the child's immunization records maintained by the superintendent under section 6357, subsection 1.’
Amend the bill by adding after section 1 the following:
‘Sec. 2. Reimbursement. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Commissioner of Education shall establish procedures to reimburse school administrative units for 90% of the cost of assembling vaccine information statements and sending them to parents of children excepted from the immunization requirements under the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 6355.

This amendment, which is the majority report of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs, clarifies that a school health advisor or a designee of a school health advisor must provide to the parent of a child excepted from the State's immunization requirements for schoolchildren information consisting of vaccine information statements prepared by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the benefits and risks of immunization and sign a statement that the information has been provided to the parent.
It requires the Commissioner of Education to establish procedures to reimburse school administrative units for 90% of the cost of assembling vaccine information statements and sending them to parents of children excepted from the immunization requirements. It also adds an appropriations and allocations section.
