An Act To Expand Benefits from Maine's Wind Resource
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 35-A MRSA §3404, sub-§2, as amended by PL 2009, c. 615, Pt. A, §4, is repealed.
Sec. 2. 35-A MRSA §3404, sub-§3 is enacted to read:
3. State wind energy goals. The goals for wind energy development in the State are that there be:
A. Expanded economic opportunities within the State, including increasing the number of jobs in the manufacturing, construction and development of wind energy projects; and
B. Lower electricity prices for the State's residential, commercial and industrial consumers.
SUMMARY
This bill changes the goals for wind energy development in the Maine Wind Energy Act from a schedule of increasing levels of installed capacity to a statement that the goals are expanded economic opportunities in the State, including increasing the number of jobs in the manufacturing, construction and development of wind energy projects, and lower electricity prices for the State's residential, commercial and industrial consumers.
