‘ 13. Qualified school employee becoming a part-time law enforcement officer. A school administrative unit may invite a school employee who is qualified under this section to carry a concealed handgun on school premises and who voluntarily participates pursuant to subsection 12 to become a part-time law enforcement officer. If the school employee accepts, the school administrative unit may enter into an agreement on behalf of that school employee with a local law enforcement agency or sheriff to allow that employee to become a part-time law enforcement officer. The agreement must require that the school employee successfully complete the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s training requirements to become a part-time law enforcement officer pursuant to Title 25, sections 2804-B and 2804-E. Upon completion of that training, a local law enforcement agency or sheriff may commission the school employee as a part-time law enforcement officer. A school employee commissioned as a part-time law enforcement officer pursuant to this subsection is subject to the policies and requirements of the local law enforcement agency or sheriff. ’
