Providing that children of certain veterans have 6 academic years to complete 120 credit hours instead of 8 semesters under the laws regarding postsecondary tuition waivers may increase the amount of tuition revenue waived by the State's public postsecondary educational institutions beginning in fiscal year 2013-14.  The impact will depend on actual experience.
Additional costs to the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and Maine Maritime Academy to provide the required information to the Bureau of Veterans Services within the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources.  Additional costs to the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management associated with using this information to establish a baseline of credit hours waived can also be absorbed within existing budgeted resources.
