Raising the
maximum imposable administrative penalty, to be consistent with federal law,
on natural gas pipeline utilities and gas utilities violating Title 35-A from
$100,000 to $200,000 for a single violation and from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000
for a related series of violations may result in a revenue increase to the
Public Utilities Commission Reimbursement Fund. No estimate can be made at
this time of the number of times new penalties will exceed the old maximum
limits.
