This legislation
makes permanent a work-sharing program enacted by Public Law 2011, c. 91 as a
voluntary alternative to layoffs during a slowdown in business. This legislation also makes changes to
current statutes in order to conform to federal provisions that govern
short-term compensation programs. The
net savings to the Unemployment Compensation Trust Fund within the Department
of Labor can not be determined at this time.
The Department of Labor estimates the total savings to the Trust Fund
since the work-sharing program began in March 2012 to be approximately
$700,000. |
|
Additional costs
to the Department of Labor associated with the rulemaking process can be
absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
