An Act To Improve Snowmobiling in Maine

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §13104, sub-§4-A  is enacted to read:

4-A Snowmobile trail fund sticker.   No later than October 1st of each year, the commissioner shall provide the agents authorized to register snowmobiles under section 13105 with a sufficient quantity of snowmobile trail fund stickers for all snowmobiles registered in the State for that snowmobile season. In addition to the registration fees provided in subsections 4 and 5, an annual snowmobile trail fund sticker fee of $15 is required for a snowmobile registered by a nonresident in accordance with this section. A resident may purchase a snowmobile trail fund sticker to support trails. All money from each sticker collected pursuant to this subsection is credited to the Snowmobile Trail Fund of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands. A person who violates this subsection commits a civil violation for which a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $200 may be adjudged.

SUMMARY

This bill establishes an annual $15 snowmobile trail fund sticker that must be purchased for each snowmobile registered in the State by a nonresident and that is voluntary for residents, the proceeds of which are transferred to the Snowmobile Trail Fund of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands for snowmobile trail maintenance and grooming.
