Amend the amendment by inserting after the first indented paragraph the following:

Sec. 3. 25 MRSA §2001-A, sub-§3  is enacted to read:

3 Firearm safety brochure.   Upon purchase of a handgun, a person exempt under subsection 2, paragraph A-1 shall sign and provide to the firearm dealer an acknowledgment that the person was provided a basic firearm safety brochure in accordance with section 2012, subsection 2, paragraph A. The firearm dealer shall retain the acknowledgment for one year. The Department of Public Safety shall post a basic firearm safety brochure and an acknowledgment form on the department's publicly accessible website.

Amend the amendment by relettering or renumbering any nonconsecutive Part letter or section number to read consecutively.

This amendment requires a person who is authorized under the bill to carry a concealed handgun without a permit to sign an acknowledgment that the person was provided a firearm safety brochure upon purchase of a handgun. A firearm safety brochure is currently required to be provided with every firearm sold. The amendment requires the firearm dealer to retain the acknowledgment for one year. It also requires the Department of Public Safety to post a firearm safety brochure and the acknowledgment form on the department's publicly accessible website.
