Resolve, To Establish a Commission To Study the Roles and Rights of Grandparents in Raising Their Grandchildren
Sec. 1. Roles and rights of grandparents study commission. Resolved: That the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court shall convene a study commission consisting of representatives of appropriate state agencies and stakeholders. The study commission shall examine the increasing role of grandparents in raising their grandchildren and appropriate legal rights of grandparents in the care, custody and control of those grandchildren. The study commission shall develop recommendations regarding roles and rights of grandparents and shall submit its report and recommendations, with any necessary implementing legislation, to the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary no later than December 6, 2017. After receipt and review of the report, the committee may submit legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 128th Legislature.
