An Act To Create a Training Wage
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §664, sub-§1-A is enacted to read:
1-A. Training wage. Notwithstanding subsection 1, an employer may pay a person who is 20 years of age or under and is a student at a secondary or postsecondary school a minimum hourly training wage that is $1.00 above the federal minimum wage. Nothing in this subsection may be construed to require payment of a wage above the state minimum hourly wage as provided in subsection 1.
SUMMARY
This bill provides a minimum hourly training wage of $1.00 above the federal minimum wage for a person who is 20 years of age or under and is a student at a secondary or postsecondary school.
