An Act To Require Center Line Markings on All State and State Aid Highways
Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1353 is enacted to read:
§ 1353. Center line markings on state and state aid highways
The department shall install center line markings on all state and state aid highways. The material, color, width and pattern of the center line markings must comply with the latest edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices published by the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration under 23 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 655, Subpart F as adopted by the department. For purposes of this section, "center line markings" has the same meaning as in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, center line markings installed under this section on state and state aid highways designated as having a low traffic count must be repainted every 2 years. The commissioner shall adopt rules to establish a system by which certain state and state aid highways are designated as having a low traffic count. Rules adopted pursuant to this paragraph are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
